LandBridge Company and NRG Energy have entered into a strategic agreement regarding a potential new development site.

  • Location: The chosen site is in Reeves County, Texas, located within the Delaware Basin.
  • Power Potential: The area could potentially house a large, 1,100 MW natural gas power generation facility. This facility would be connected directly to the power grid.
  • Who Builds It? NRG could construct this power plant, but only if they first secure an appropriate power purchase agreement (PPA) with a data center as the long-term anchor customer.
  • Site Advantages: LandBridge’s surface acreage is strategically placed right next to the Waha Gas market hub. This gives the project direct access to substantial existing low-cost natural gas supplies and crucial transmission infrastructure.
  • Timeline: Initial applications, including requests for air permits and electric interconnection, have been submitted. If the project moves forward, the facility’s earliest potential in-service date is year-end 2029.
  • Strategic Goals: This collaboration helps advance LandBridge’s "powered land strategy," showcasing the strong value LandBridge offers to blue-chip power generators and data center developers.
  • Regional Benefits: NRG is pleased to explore bringing reliable energy solutions to West Texas. Executives noted that once a long-term customer is secured, the site has the potential to support regional data center growth, foster innovation, improve economic resilience, and enhance grid stability in the region.
